“Any content is better than no content!”
– State-Lines co-founder Jarrett Haas… probably.

It’s been a while, State-Linoceroses (I’m not giving up on that being the go-to name of this page’s fans), but I wanted to drop in, share a quick list, and spread it to the world, in part so I can also pimp this website’s slick, new redesign.

There have been a handful of killer films released this year (loads of clunkers, too, but that’s a different post) and I’ve listed some choice ones in a manner that the Buzzfeed-reading youth can comprehend: in Graphics Interchange Format, or “JIFs” as assholes like to call them. It’s GIF with a hard G. Stop fighting that fight. “Your revolution is over, JIF people. Condolences. The bums lost!”

So, without further ado, I give you—nay, I GIF you—my favorite films from the first half of 2016 — that is, movies that saw a theatrical release in the U.S. between January 1st and June 30th:

Witch2 _____

Green _____

zoo _____

Cap _____

NiceGuys _____

Dory _____

ceasar _____

Swiss ______

While not listed in any particular order or ranking, the films shown above are, from top to bottom: The Witch, Green Room, Zootopia, Captain America: Civil War, The Nice Guys, Finding Dory, Hail, Caesar!, and Swiss Army Man.

Based on their box office returns, I’d guess most of you have checked out one or all of the films under Disney’s ever-growing umbrella, but if you haven’t seen, or even heard of, a few of the smaller inclusions here, I do hope you’ll seek them out.

As we trudge through this lackluster movie summer like Artax through the Swamp of Sadness, there are some glimmers of light in the distance. Several films still to come on the back half show a lot of promise, including Arrival, The Birth of a NationLa La Land, and Blair Witch, as well as expanded universe franchise entries like Doctor Strange, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

We’ll see each other again much sooner, but I’m sure to have some kind of ‘best of’ list once 2016 comes to a close, too. Let’s see how many of these will make the final cut.

Thanks for stopping by, gang. And how ’bout this site, right? “It looks good. I mean, really good. Hey, everyone! Come and see how good it looks!”
