Did they just become detective friends?!
Just when you thought they couldn’t adapt more live action stories based on the beloved characters, this happens. Deadline has reported that everyone’s favorite over-the-top comedy duo, Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, will be starring in an upcoming comedy as Sherlock Holmes and John Watson, respectively. The movie, titled Holmes & Watson, will see the Step Brothers and Talladega Nights co-stars reuniting in an adaption of an Sir Arthur Conan Doyle story in the same vein as their past comedic hits.
The movie will be developed by Sony Pictures and directed by Etan Cohen, who directed 2015’s Get Hard, also starring Ferrell and Kevin Hart. Cohen has also served as the writer for other projects such as Men In Black 3 and Tropic Thunder. Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat, The Dictator) was reportedly set to play the role of Watson before backing out and leaving the role available for Reilly.
Holmes & Watson will add to the list of recent Doyle adaptations which includes Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes series starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law; BBC’s Sherlock starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman; CBS’ Elementary starring Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu; and 2015’s Mr. Holmes featuring Sir Ian McKellen playing an older version of the title character.
